“Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” — Isaiah 41:10

What began as an ordinary weekday suddenly became a lesson in trust.

I walked through the door and found two Navy recruiters sitting at my dining room table with my husband. My daughter — only seventeen — had signed up for the Navy. Because she was still a minor, our signature was required. When the moment came to sign on the dotted line, my first instinct was simple and fierce: No way. I’m not signing this.

As her high school graduation approached, the reality of her leaving settled heavily on my heart. She had talked about joining the Navy for years, but I convinced myself it was just a phase. Now the phase had become a future, and fear began whispering every worst‑case scenario. What if she needs me and I’m not there? What if she feels alone? How can I be sure she’ll be okay?

Overwhelmed, I poured out my heart to the Lord. And in that quiet place, the conversation went something like this:

Jesus: My dear child, do you love your daughter?

Me: Yes, Lord.

Jesus: Do you not think I love her even more than you ever could?

Me: with tears streaming down my face, Yes, Lord. Who better could I entrust her to than You?

Jesus: Then release her into My care.

Me: still crying, Okay, Lord.

Letting our children step into the world is one of the hardest acts of obedience a parent faces. But Isaiah 41:10 reminded me of something I had forgotten: God’s promise is not only for me — it is for my children too.

So my prayer changed.

Instead of clinging tightly, I began praying over her and her siblings: “Lord, be with them. Guide them. Strengthen them. Help them. Hold them up with Your righteous right hand.”

And in releasing them, I discovered something unexpected — peace. Not because the world became safer, but because I remembered who holds it. The same God who steadies me steadies them. The same God who walks beside me walks beside them, even when I cannot.

Trust is never easy, but it is always worth it. And His promises continue to be the rock I stand on — for myself, and for the ones I love most.
