Two Are Better Than One

Learning from God’s Creation

As I was reading Ecclesiastes, I thought about the characteristics of zebras. My daughter has always loved them—they’ve been her favorite animal since she was little. Over the years, I’ve learned a few things about zebras through books and watching National Geographic with her. Here are some fascinating facts:

• Family groups are stable members, maintaining strong bonds over many years.

• Zebras look out for one another; if one becomes separated, the others search for it.

• Zebras are an important prey for lions. When a family group is attacked, the members form a semi‑circle, face the predator, and stand ready to bite or strike if the attack continues.

• If one of the family members is injured, the rest will often circle around it to protect it from further harm.

I love how God often uses His very creations to bring His truths to light. Only He could have thought up such a masterful plan as this.

Creation as a Teacher

Job 12:7–9   “But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds of the air, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish of the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this?”

As I ponder the words spoken in Job, I’m reminded that we can learn from nature the power found in unity—how strength multiplies when we stand together. Like the zebra whose greatest predator is the lion, we too have a predator often described as a lion.

1 Peter 5:8   “Be self‑controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”

Standing Together in Faith

So let’s encourage one another to be alert and self‑controlled. If the demands and challenges of life try to keep you from coming to Bible study, let’s remember Ecclesiastes 4:9–12. God does not want us to face life’s predators and challenges alone.

Just as He created the zebra family with a built‑in defense mechanism, He has also given His children a greater defense—His Holy Spirit and the power found in unity.

When we feel discouraged or under attack, that’s the best time to be vigilant. Put on the armor of God, and through the power of the Holy Spirit, flatten those mountains in your path and sprint on over to Bible study! As we join together in God’s power and fight off the enemy—who then can stand against us?

More Than Conquerors

Romans 8:31   “What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”
