That We Might Know Him - Part 6

1 Corinthians 2:10–16 “These are the things God has revealed to us by His Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God… In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us… explaining spiritual realities with Spirit‑taught words.”
Scripture tells us plainly that we cannot understand spiritual truth unless the Spirit of God teaches us. Through the Holy Spirit living in and through us, He guides us into all truth. God’s Word becomes our guidebook — our spiritual GPS — directing us through life.
2 Timothy 3:16 “All Scripture is God‑breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.”
This is why so many people have a distorted view of God. They read the Bible out of context, picking and choosing what they want to believe and ignoring what they don’t. But 2 Timothy 3 reminds us that ALL Scripture is God‑breathed and useful. The Holy Spirit, working together with God’s Word, keeps us in right relationship with Christ.
I often think of the satellites floating in space. Every day, we run what’s called a calibration test. We point the satellite’s sensors toward a known star. By comparing the star’s true position with the satellite’s position, we can tell whether the satellite has drifted off course. If it has, the operator intervenes, using what he knows to be true to guide the satellite back on track.
This is exactly how the Word of God and the Holy Spirit work in our lives. God’s Word shows us whether we are walking in His will or drifting onto our own path. The Holy Spirit is like the operator — He intervenes, corrects, and gently guides us back on course.
He whispers to our hearts: “Bill, you’re off course there.” “Casey, you shouldn’t have reacted that way.”
Then He brings Scripture to mind, such as: “A wrathful man stirs up strife, but he who is slow to anger allays contention.”
We repent, and He lovingly guides us back toward truth.
Imagine someone who has never sailed suddenly trying to navigate a sailboat without a rudder and without a GPS. Even before modern navigation, sailors studied the stars because the stars were their guide. Likewise, why would we try to navigate life using only our own understanding? God is the Creator of the universe and the Author of life — He alone KNOWS what is best for us.
Left to our own wisdom, we will make a mess of our lives and end up shipwrecked. But God’s ways are perfect and good. When we are in His will, listening to His voice, and trusting Him in all things, we can be confident that no matter how big the storms become, He is in control.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for giving us Your Holy Spirit and Your infallible, perfect Word, that we may KNOW Your good and perfect will for our lives. Teach us to recognize Your voice, for You tell us in Your Word, “My sheep KNOW My voice, and they follow Me.” Holy Spirit, guide us into all truth, that we may KNOW You and that our joy may be made complete. In Jesus’ name we pray… Amen.
