Book of John

Contributor - Teresa Moon

John’s ultimate purpose in his Gospel is to explain that Jesus is God—and also fully man. He tells us of both His eternal nature and humanity. That we might “believe”— Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name - John 20:31.

For the next few months, we will be learning and highlighting the significance and uniqueness of Jesus eternal nature as well as His humanity.

John 3:16-21

In His late‑night conversation with Nicodemus, Jesus—while teaching the need for spiritual rebirth—explained that people are condemned because of unbelief in Him, and that this unbelief springs from loving darkness more than the Light that has come into the world…Jesus Himself.

It is difficult to understand why anyone would love and choose darkness. Perhaps it is because there is a lack of understanding—or even a lack of desire to understand—the cost of what is being traded: light for darkness. If only they would open their eyes to what is being given up…

Truth for Lies

Provers 12:19 ESV

Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue is but for a moment.

Hope for Despair

Psalm 42:5 ESV

Why are you cast down O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me?  Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.

Understanding for Blindness

2 Corinthians 4:4 ESV

In their case, the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

Integrity for Depravity

Titus 3:3-5a ESV

For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us.

God's presence for his absence

Ephesians 2:11-13

Therefore remember....that you were at that time separated from Christ....But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.

Life for Death

Romans 6:23 ESV

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Weekly Reflection:  "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.  John 3:16 ESV    This is why Jesus came....not to condemn the world but that we would have salvation through him....the light.

Prayer:

Father, our prayer today is that you would cause the light of Jesus to shine brightly in the life of each and every one of us, who by faith, have trusted you for salvation through the blood of Jesus.  Give us a heart for those that are still walking in darkness and use us as your instruments to show them the way to eternal life.  Draw them from the darkness to the light of the world, our Savior, Jesus Christ.   Amen
